33 x 24cm etching plate on
heavy weight hand made paper - total size 38 x 56cm
>Click on images to see larger<
This piece is named "AL" it is dated 1988 and is marked 5/30, it is a
beautifully rendered etching, the photograph does not do it justice,
the iridescence of the etched line is captivating, it is a large and
arresting image
offers around £750
Peter created many works, but few etchings, incorporating the NED -
the Glasgow equivalent of the CHAV
Peter was fascinated by the social constructs of the introspective
world of the socially marginalized. His fascination with the rules of
life - how people relate to the work and the word to them has been a
continuing feature of all his work. This fascination probably motivated
by an autistic dispensation that has led him to the brink of
destruction, but ultimately enabled his genius.
this piece is named "Freddie" dated 1988 and is 3/30 (so very collectible) offers round £650
"Billy" represents classic the Howson flare for the the obscure beauty
of the common man. With his head thrown back he is the king of his
realm, with a roll up to enjoy. The beauty of the line in this study is
mezmerising (sorry but i couldn't capture it in the photo). this is an
"87" so very collectible it is 11/30
"The sky over the city is as bruised and threatening as
the subjects of Howson's famous Saracen Heads series and as my tape unspools
it captures their creator's measured speech and at least a flavour of
his measure-less personality."
The three studies below were for works in the late 80's their boldness
of line, the lower right face assuming an almost tribal look, and
charged images create a striking statement, and at 30 x 42cm would
mount and frame up to a impressive size. Sold
£250
The sketch below was the final rough for the second to last study in
the Rakes Progress series, the image that was used for the front cover
of the catalogue, peter has held onto this since 1997
20 x 15cm ( the photo is lighter in than the sketch)
Sold
£200
on the reverse of the sketch is this note
If your after something a bit more quirky here's a doodle done at a meeting - classic world worn character
A4 ink
or this great little wild-man
A5
The sketch below was on Peter's flat wall in Glasgow for quite a few
months, only coming down when he packed up to move to his new house, it
is A4 lined Sold
Or this large A4 doodle showing Peter's use of shape and pattern in a way unique to him Sold
and finally a bit of fun - one of Peter's mad doodles - you won't see
many of these, it's a dinky 6 x 7cm Octodoodle
it will be on ebay soon Sold
